Six Years in the Saddle: How Crown Perth’s Executive General Manager Continues to Champion Ride for Sick Kids WA

19 Mar 2026

Since first joining the Ride for Sick Kids WA in 2020, Crown Perth’s Executive General Manager, Andrew Cairns has become a familiar face at the start line. What began as an opportunity to support a meaningful cause has evolved into something much bigger.

Now preparing for his sixth Ride for Sick Kids, the motivation to return each year remains as  strong as ever.

“It has been a privilege to participate in the Ride for Sick Kids since 2020,” he says. “Each year I look forward to joining a great team to help raise funds for such a great cause. For me now, it’s  about encouraging others to enjoy the ride and create their own great experiences.”

A Ride That Brings People Back

For many riders, the kilometers are only part of the story. Over time, the event has built a community that extends well beyond the ride itself.

“It would definitely be the bond we all have when riding together and the great memories from each event,” he explains. “It’s also a personal challenge to come back each year and, importantly, be reminded of the importance of supporting the House.”

Crown Perth’s Culture of Giving

As a long-term supporter of both Ride for Sick Kids WA and Ronald McDonald House WA, Crown Perth has embedded community support into its culture.

“Crown Perth has been a long-term supporter for both Ride for Sick Kids and Ronald McDonald House WA,” he says. “It means so much to our teams here at Crown as it resonates closely with many of our team members and they see the direct benefit of our partnership.”

That connection between corporate support and community impact is something that Crown staff feel strongly about.

Why Crown Perth Continues to Support the Ride

From Crown’s perspective, the Ride for Sick Kids represents an opportunity to make a tangible difference for Western Australian families.

“Crown Perth and I personally strongly believe that we are in a privileged position to give back and support WA families with sick kids,” he says. “By sponsoring this particular event, it allows us to provide a direct contribution to such a worthy cause.”

Through sponsorship and rider participation, Crown helps raise both funds and awareness, ensuring more families can access the accommodation and care they need while their children receive treatment.

Moments That Make the Ride Special

After five rides, you might expect one standout memory. But for him, the magic of the Ride for Sick Kids lies in the collective experience.

“It’s not ever just one memory or experience,” he says. “It’s about connecting with a wonderful group of people who all have a similar drive and having some great fun along the way.”

“Each ride provides its own unique moments and memories, with the ride tutu always creating a laugh.”

Camaraderie That Lasts Beyond the Ride

One of the defining features of Ride for Sick Kids WA is the camaraderie that forms between riders across the journey.
“For many of us, the ride is now a regular must-do,” he says. “Over the years we’ve created genuine friendships and connections that go beyond the ride.” “And it’s always a pleasure to see new faces each year. You quickly see the enthusiasm and commitment come through from these riders.”

Thinking About Signing Up?

For anyone considering joining the Ride for Sick Kids WA for the first time, especially those wondering if they’re ready for the challenge, his advice is simple.
“The ride itself is no doubt a challenge,” he says. “However, we have all levels of ability across the group.”

“It’s about supporting a great cause, and that should be the motivation to join. A little bit of training and the right mindset are all you need to be ready.”

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Ride

The upcoming 2026 Ride for Sick Kids WA promises to be the biggest yet, with riders travelling from across Australia to take part.

“This year’s Ride for Sick Kids promises to be bigger than ever, with a number of interstate riders joining us and helping spread the word nationally,” he says.

“I look forward to more laughs, more great memories and, most importantly, raising valuable funds and awareness for families in WA who need it most.”
